DECEMBER 11TH RALLY FOR JUSTICE FOR AKAI GURLEY, AND ROSAN MILLER

Assemblyman-Elect Charles Barron, Councilwoman Inez Barron and Operation P.O.W.E.R  held a Rally on Decmber 11th demanding justice and a public Preliminary Hearing for Akai Gurley, the 28-year-old unarmed man who was shot and killed by rookie police officer, Peter Liang in East New York, Brooklyn at D.A. Ken Thompson’s office

The eye witness of the killing of Akai Gurley, Melissa Bulter and  Mrs. Rosan Miller, the 7 months pregnant woman who was choked by the police in July who’s also seeking for D.A. Ken Thompson to investigate and prosecute the NYPD officers responsible and that all charges be dropped against Mrs. Miller and her family.

"We believe that the case against Officer Liang should be conducted in a preliminary hearing which would be a public forum. A grand jury hearing would be private. New York Criminal Procedure Law Article 140 gives statutory provision for a preliminary hearing when probable cause arises outside a grand jury investigation especially when probable cause arises from eyewitness testimony plus a medical classification of death as homicide."
